AREAS OF PROGRAMMING (AOP)

Addressing the Needs of the SDSCPA Student Body

In order to create a learning community of well-rounded students, it is imperative the student governing body create programs that appeal to a diverse set of student needs.  More specifically, your AOP group is responsible for addressing needs in each of the following areas within the next year.  You may choose what order you complete your events in; however, the due dates to keep you on track are included in your syllabus.  (They average about one a month.)  Leaders in your AOP group should switch and everyone should assume different responsibilities for each programming group.  Each AOP must have a completed project proposal in each group members' portfolio.  A typed written reflection that critically evaluates the successes and shortcomings of each event is mandatory.  AOP’s are worth a substantial portion of your grade.  Lackluster programs are testaments to lack of preparation.

1.   Spirit – Spirit programming serves the SCPA community in providing opportunities for all students to become involved in showing their support for our great school.  Such programming is essential to encourage student learning and school pride.  Remember to have specific goals in your programming.  For example, daily spirit is great, but more critical during times of need-- CAHSEE prep time.

2.      Social Advocacy & Diversity – As a global citizen, it is imperative that students realize we are not alone in the world.  There are many prejudices and inequalities that we have the power to overcome.  This AOP should address such prejudices, educate, and empower students to be an active member in social advocacy and diversity appreciation.

3.      Health and Well-Being—A great mind needs a healthy body and spirit.  As such, this AOP addresses the health and well-being needs of our student body.  This AOP may foster drug free initiatives, lowering stress and life/school balancing activities, or active healthy lifestyle campaigns.

4.      Community & the Arts—This AOP is designed to foster a healthy and working relationship with community professionals and SCPA.  It is the goal of this AOP to provide opportunities for students to see and learn from the many professionals that are doing what we aspire to everyday.  This AOP also addresses the need for SCPA’s positive community involvement.  We have a great school, this AOP allows us to highlight that in the community.

5.      Professional Development—This AOP is designed to help students become goal setting, responsible students preparing for the next level.  This AOP may address needs concerning resume creation, rising to the next level, motivational speakers, etc.  This AOP is fuel by SCPA’s commitment to create professionals that are passionate about what they do.

6.      Fundraising—This AOP is designed to ensure all ASB members have experience in how money is raised and budgeted for addressing student needs.  This AOP fosters creative fundraising ideas that may accompany or assists any of the AOP’s above.  This is an invaluable opportunity for all ASB students to learn how to promote events, raise funds, and drive student successes by funding opportunities and events that encourage a healthy, well-rounded, and prideful SCPA community.
